Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin visited Garioch Indoor Bowling Club this week to present Jason Banks with a copy of a Parliamentary motion she submitted to congratulate him on making it to the final of the World Indoor Bowls Championship (IIBC).

In the Parliamentary motion, Ms Martin highlighted that Jason recorded a new best result at the World Championships in January, and that it was the first time a singles/singles final had appeared for unseeded players since the introduction of the seeds in 1988.

The movement also recognized Jason’s accomplishments throughout his highly successful tournament career to date, including but not limited to: winning the junior singles title at the IIBC Championships in 2019, and winning three medals at the European Bowls in 2017.

During Mrs. Martin’s visit, the Garioch Indoor Bowling Club was hosting a competition for over 200 entrants in shortstop bowling, with 18 communities participating from across the North East, along with others from as far away as Gretna and Skye.

Prior to making the proposal to Jason Banks, MSP Gillian Martin was greeted by Garioch Indoor Bowling Club President Derek MacKay, as well as Club Secretary John McQuillan.

Jason is currently taking part in the Gents International Bowls in Fife March 16-18. This will be his nineteenth match for Scotland.

Jason Banks commented: “I am honored that MSP Gillian Martin presented a Parliamentary motion in the Scottish Parliament in recognition of my achievement in reaching the final of the World Indoor Championships in January.”

MSP Gillian Martin said: “I was delighted to put forward a motion to congratulate Jason Banks – his excellent performance in the World Indoor Bowls Championship deserved more than a Parliamentary motion, and I was even more delighted to have the opportunity to put the motion forward to Jason at Garioch Indoor Bowling Club. I wish him all the best in his career.” All his upcoming competitions this year and beyond.
