Trump MAGA inner circle furious at DeSantis and Nikki Haley for failing to call Manhattan DA

Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley were attacked by a number of Trump loyalists for failing to comment on rumors of the former president’s arrest on Tuesday.

MAGA Republicans have criticized DeSantis and Haley for not speaking out against the Manhattan DA’s office for what they claim is the weaponization of the justice system.

It is widely rumored that DeSantis is preparing to run against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Haley was the first to enter the race after Trump.

Jason Miller, a Trump adviser and former CEO of right-wing free-speech app Gettr, noted a “radio silence” from the two since the rumors gained traction early Saturday.

Meanwhile, he shared comments from Mike Pence, who on Saturday accused Alvin Bragg in Manhattan of “political stalking” after rumors circulated that his office would bring charges against Trump over Stormy Daniels smoothing out the payments.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, now one of the most powerful Republicans in Congress and a trusted Trump ally, also spoke in his defense Saturday morning.

Here we go again – an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he seeks political revenge against President Trump, he wrote.

“I am directing the relevant committees to immediately investigate whether federal funds are being used to undermine our democracy by interfering with elections through politically motivated prosecutions.”

He tweeted again on Sunday: “Alvin Bragg is misusing his office to target President Trump.”

The mounting pressure on DeSantis has been that he is the governor of Florida, the state Trump has made home since leaving office.

And Mike Cernovich, a far-right social media personality, suggested the governor make it clear that he would not extradite Trump from Florida without “proper legal review.”

“DeSantis is making his first egregious mistake by not convicting this lawless act,” he said. One Twitter user pointed out that Trump suggested in his original Truth Social book that he would turn himself in, and that the issue is not an extradition case.

Ben Keogh, editor-at-large of the conservative Red State news site, wrote in response: “I say this as his most ardent supporter, but Ron DeSantis is making a huge mistake by not talking about the issue of impeaching Trump. ”

The pressure DeSantis is now under to comment on Trump’s rumored indictment was particularly evident in the responses to the governor’s most recent tweet, issued Saturday afternoon, that was related to Hurricane Ian.

“The world is watching your every move, Ron,” read one of the best responses.

You are making a grave decision not to address the current corruption. By staying silent, we know you bought and paid for this, which is horrible for the future of this country,” read another.

One person tweeted: “Oh my God, I never thought I’d see Ron’s comments look like this…”.

While DeSantis was quick to accuse him of cynical political strategies. Longshot presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy sought to use the situation to his advantage.

And he had stern words on Saturday for the Square Republicans, claiming their silence could be “the beginning of the end.”

If an indictment goes ahead in the case involving Trump’s silent payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, it would be the first against the former president — and could open the door to other cases against him.

“Today was an important day in the country,” Ramaswamy said during a brief press conference following his remarks at the forum.

He added, “The reason I’m doing this is because the rest of the Republican field, I think, has been deafeningly silent on an important issue in the country today.”

The biotech billionaire added: “What I’m going to say has nothing to do with Donald Trump and everything to do with the integrity of elections and the integrity of self-governing democracy.”

So I don’t care whether you support Trump or not, if you support the constitutional integrity of our republic, you need to be on the side of being really clear.

Ramaswamy has been very vocal in his condemnation of the prospect of filing an indictment against Trump, claiming that there would be no case had it not been for Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, to stand vigorously against Trump.

He claimed during his news conference in Charleston on Saturday that Bragg is a “prosecutor with political powers” seeking to “eliminate opposition to a ruling party using the power of arrest.”
